What Lu is Grateful For

I love this girl.

I went to a parent/teacher conference yesterday with Lu's teacher.

I've worried about her because she was behind when she started school a few months ago.  She knew the alphabet song but could barely write her name and not much else.  I'd try to read to her, hold her hand and make the letters, watch videos, play computer games.  She just wasn't real interested.

I talked with a friend of mine who teaches Kindergarten and she said until kids care, nothing really works. Once they care, then they usually progress pretty rapidly.

Evidently, now she cares.

Her teacher said she's doing great and is on fire with the alphabet. This is big for her because she's nothing if not stubborn. Once she commits, though, watch out.

She's going to master this alphabet/number thing.

I had the thought the other day at J's parent/teacher meetings to have Lu take her notebook and pen and write all the words she could see.  She didn't have to know what they said, just write them down so they looked the same.  I must have been inspired because she was in heaven.

In the entryway to the Kindergarten rooms, the teachers had done a large tree with a fence and some pumpkins. (Really cutesified and stuff.)  While I was waiting, I read some of the 'grateful leaves' the kids had done.

'Sarah is thankful for Brudders.'

'Ethan is thankful for Hot Dogs.'

'Emily is thankful for her dog.'

'Noah is thankful for God.'

What is my daughter thankful for?

'Lu is thankful for her high heeled shoes.'

How awesome is that?!

I, am thankful for her.
