A friend of mine ran the marathon and finished 15 minutes before the bombs went off. 15 minutes. I know she hugs her kids multiple times a day. I would imagine she'll throw a couple more in there just because she can. We should all give a reminder to those we love 'just because we can.'
Another friend posted on facebook that she didn't run the marathon this year. She was so grateful for everyone's concern that she had.
"I did have a friend running it and due to some strange situations she slowed her pace or she could have been close to the blasts. Her husband was right there and witnessed a scene he doesn't want to remember. Marathons are hard from start to finish. Boston is unique in the course, the history and the mental toughness of the course. It is an honor to get there and run it. But in the words of my friend Chris who was there today to live a dream, "This is a marathon i want to forget." My thoughts and prayers are with those that did and with those who were supporting loved ones that ran."
I am equally amazed at the goodness of people especially those that have been highlighted as true heroes. The father who has lost a son to war and another to overwhelming sadness. The retired football player just doing his thing like his brothers did on 9/11. I know there are countless others.
The quote by Mr. Rogers has crossed my desk many times this week and it's one that I love.
’When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster,’ I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.’ ~Mr. Rogers.
Something good will come from this tragedy. Something has to. I think of how sad God must be when things like this happen. But then how happy he must be to see the surge of people doing awesome things after.
You can light-up a dark room. You can not dark-up a light room. It can't be done. Light will always prevail. Darkness can not over power it.
